Sumy Theater is preparing the premiere of the play “The Bird in the Attic”

Sumy National Theater of drama and musical comedy named after M. Shchepkin is a real outpost of Ukrainian culture. It is located in the northeastern part of Ukraine, in the region that suffers the most from enemy shelling, because it is only 30 kilometers from Sumy to the Russian border.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Shchepkin Sumy Theater sheltered the Luhansk Ukrainian Theater under its roof, which since 2014 has been forced to move twice from the temporarily occupied territories. Now both teams work together.

As part of the TAW (Theater and War) project, the Sumy Theater is preparing the premiere of the play “The Bird in the Attic” based on the play written by Oleg Mykhaylov. The stage director of the play is Vladyslav Pysarev. Especially for the project, Vladyslav told why this particular play seemed important to him, how the war affected the theater in which he works, and what great task he sees before him as a director in wartime.
